The City of Dripping Springs is making big moves to enhance quality of life for residents, with several major projects on the horizon in 2025 and beyond. During the recent State of the City presentation at the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce luncheon, city officials shared updates on key developments, from park renovations to roadway improvements and downtown enhancements.

If you live in Dripping Springs or are considering making it your home, here’s a breakdown of what’s coming soon to our growing Hill Country community.

Downtown Dripping Springs Upgrades: New Restrooms & Renovated Spaces

Big changes are in store for downtown Dripping Springs, with a focus on making the area more accessible and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

  • Public Restrooms on Mercer Street: Four new restroom stalls will be installed along Mercer Street, just east of Vintage Soul (302 Mercer St.). These are expected to be completed before Founders Day in April 2025, just in time for the annual celebration.

  • City Hall Renovations: Scheduled for completion by April 2025, City Hall is undergoing significant updates, including:

    • New and improved restrooms

    • An expanded conference room

    • Upgraded lighting and flooring

  • Stephenson Building Project: This historic building will be transformed into a multipurpose space for community events, performances, and civic offices. Construction is expected to start between May and June 2025, with completion anticipated by June 2026.

Parks and Recreation: A New Master Plan and Park Enhancements

The Parks and Recreation Department is working on a 10-year Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, designed to improve and expand recreational spaces in Dripping Springs. Here’s what to expect:

  • Park Improvements: Upgrades to the city’s four existing parks are planned, along with new projects at:

    • Rathgeber Natural Resources Park (vision plan approved in 2024)

    • Arrowhead Park

  • Community Input Welcomed: Residents can participate in shaping the master plan by completing an online survey or attending engagement events to share their ideas for park amenities and improvements.

  • Current Park Enhancements:

    • New sidewalk connections and solar-powered parking lot lights at Founders Memorial Park.

  • Western Wonderland Event: Mayor Bill Foulds is calling for local sponsors to support this beloved holiday festival, which features an ice-skating rink, vendor markets, and festive activities. Without sufficient funding, the event may not take place in the future.

Transportation and Roadway Improvements

Efforts to improve Dripping Springs' roadways and pedestrian infrastructure continue:

  • Old Fitzhugh Road: Ongoing pedestrian enhancements, including new sidewalks and landscaping.

  • School Sidewalks: A new pedestrian pathway connects Dripping Springs Middle School to Dripping Springs High School, improving safety and accessibility for students and nearby neighborhoods.

  • Mercer Street to Library Sidewalk Project: A conceptual plan is underway to extend sidewalks from Mercer Street all the way to the Dripping Springs Community Library. While still in planning stages, this project aims to improve walkability downtown.

  • Hwy. 290 Expansion Update: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has paused its expansion plans for Highway 290 between Oak Hill (Austin) and Dripping Springs to revisit design options after gathering community feedback.

Potential New H-E-B in Dripping Springs?

While rumors of a new H-E-B grocery store have circulated, the company currently states it has "no plans for a new store in Dripping Springs." However, city officials confirmed that permit discussions are ongoing for a possible replacement of the existing H-E-B at Hwy. 290 and Rob Shelton Boulevard.

In addition, several new businesses have recently opened or are coming soon to the area, including:

  • Cousin Louie’s

  • Short Mama’s

  • Shipley Donuts

  • Roxie’s

Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

While no major updates were shared on the wastewater treatment plant expansion, city officials expect a decision by May 2025. This follows recent litigation discussions regarding the facility’s future.
